WHAT WE DO

MICAIA Foundation’s programmes follow the priorities laid out in the MICAIA Manifesto under our three core themes:

  • Strengthening local economies
  • Supporting healthy, vibrant communities
  • Building consensus for social and economic change

In all of MICAIA’s work, we place the emphasis on creating new economic, social and cultural opportunities for younger people. In addition to the core programmes of MICAIA Foundation set out below, MICAIA is developing a set of specifically youth-focused programmes that will help younger people take up new opportunities. In time these youth programmes will be run through the MICAIA Centre.

 

Current Programmes

In 2008, MICAIA Foundation is putting most emphasis on initiating a range of activities under the first of these, Strengthening local economies. . We have begun work on four programmes:

  • Feeding the Family; Feeding the Community
  • Feeding the Nation; Feeding the Region
  • Local Products for Local Markets
  • New Economic Opportunities (natural products and tourism)

Under the theme Supporting healthy vibrant communities, MICAIA Foundation is working on two main programmes:

  • Active Citizens: Learning for Life
  • Connecting People and Communities

Under the theme Building consensus for social and economic change, we have two main programmes:

  • Building consensus for sustainable trade
  • Challenging assumptions

To enable young people to participate and benefit from MICAIA’s work, we are developing a set of youth-focused programmes under the theme Training, Inspiration and Learning for Young People

  • Umzi Wethu
