The MICAIA Family

MICAIA is a growing movement of people committed to working for MICAIA’s vision of achieving local prosperity in a sustainable world. The MICAIA family consists of not-for-profit organizations in Mozambique and the UK, and a social enterprise in Mozambique. An informal ‘council’ of founders and the Chairs of each organization ensures synergy and harmony in MICAIA’s operations, and an International Advisory Group provides wisdom and advice.

In Mozambique, MICAIA Foundation is helping to create new economic opportunities, particularly for younger people, in areas such as food processing, natural products, eco-tourism and organic farming. We also help people maintain the cultural and social fabric of their communities, strengthen community groups such as Farmers Associations, and enable people to take action to protect their environment and local eco-system.

MICAIA’s ethical trading company, Eco-MICAIA Ltd, works with the Foundation to help develop local markets for community producers. Eco-MICAIA will in time develop a range of unique food and natural healthcare products for the Mozambican market, and build its business in cooperation and partnership with producer groups.

In Europe, MICAIA UK engages in research, education and campaigning on issues directly affecting Mozambique, and raises funds to these activities and to support practical work in the country.

Internationally, MICAIA’s International Advisory Group is an indispensable source of wisdom and practical advice and learning from volunteer specialists in a wide array of fields directly relevant to MICAIA’s work.
